About BPSC CCE
The Combined Competitive Examination is held by the Bihar Public Service Commission for the Bihar Administrative Service and the other state services named in the advertisement. The current notice is the Integrated 72nd Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination, dated 5 May 2026. A candidate needs a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent, from a recognised university. Age is reckoned on 1 August 2026. The minimum is 20, 21 or 22 years according to the service in the advertisement's tables. The maximum is 37 years for an unreserved man, 40 years for an unreserved woman and for Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class candidates, and 42 years for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, with the further relaxations printed in the advertisement. The date of birth on the matriculation certificate is the one the Commission accepts.
Online applications for the 72nd preliminary ran from 7 May 2026 to 31 May 2026 on the Commission's portal. The important notice of 5 May 2026 recorded 1,230 requisitions from departments. Later corrigenda removed posts, including 44 vacancies of Sugarcane Officer and 2 of Deputy Superintendent of Police, so the final number is the advertisement as corrected. The fee named in the advertisement is ₹100 for each examination, with a further ₹200 where the application does not use an Aadhaar number as the identity document. The preliminary sitting that had been fixed for 26 July 2026 was postponed; the notice of 12 October 2026 says the new date will be announced later.
The preliminary examination is one General Studies paper. Every question is objective and multiple choice. The paper lasts two hours and carries 150 marks. The question paper is set in Hindi and English. Each question has five bubbles, A to D for the answer and E for not attempted. A wrong answer costs one-third of a mark. A question with no bubble at all also costs one-third of a mark. Marking E is how a candidate leaves a question without that deduction. The paper is only a screening test. Its marks are not added to the Main Examination. About ten times the notified vacancies are called for the Main Examination, and everyone at the same category cut-off is included. A candidate must also reach the minimum qualifying marks fixed for the preliminary: 40% for the unreserved category, 36.5% for Backward Class, 34% for Extremely Backward Class, and 32% for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, women and candidates with disability.
The Main Examination for the 72nd combined competition, as printed for that examination in the advertisement, has General Hindi of 100 marks in 3 hours (30% required, not counted for merit), General Studies Paper I and Paper II of 300 marks and 3 hours each, and an Essay of 300 marks in 3 hours. One optional subject is a separate objective paper of 100 questions and 100 marks in 2 hours. A minimum on that paper is required, and those marks are not counted for merit. The personality test is 120 marks. Merit for this examination is the two General Studies papers and the Essay (900) plus the interview (120), a total of 1,020. Some other posts in the same integrated advertisement use a descriptive optional of 300 marks in the merit total instead of the Essay. Question papers are in Hindi and English. Answers in the language papers follow the rules in the advertisement; other papers may be answered in Hindi (Devanagari), English or Urdu.
